Every first step begins with courage. And the second, and each one after that.

Do you consider yourself a courageous person?

Courage is easy to recognise in the bigger than life moments that make the news; those human acts of heroism, the feats of endurance, the survival against all odds type stories. There we see courage in her primary colours – blatant, in your face.

Are they the only colours she dresses in? Is she only ever overt, bright and flashy?

Do you notice her in the quieter shades she wears as she goes about her normal business?

  • Getting out of bed each morning and facing another day.
  • Entering that crowded room when anxiety is high.
  • Stepping outside the comfort zone.
  • Trying that new thing.
  • Making that hard decision.
  • Staying true to personal values.
  • Learning when to say yes and when to say no.

Do you consider yourself a courageous person?

If you have ever taken a first step towards something, no matter how seemingly insignificant, you have shown courage.

If you have fallen over and climbed back onto your feet, you have shown courage.

If you have failed at something and tried again, you have shown courage.

If you have extended kindness to someone, or to yourself, you have shown courage.

If you have experienced difficulty and persevered, you have shown courage.

If you have allowed yourself to be truly seen by another, you have shown courage.

Now – do you consider yourself a courageous person?
